I used to be very promiscuous back in the day, and when I date someone, I tell them that upfront. Most guys are alright with my past history, but some legitimately freak out. When you lie by omission, or when you fib about something in the dating world, it will eventually come out.

How to Tell a Guy You Like Him Without Pushing Him Away

Your strategies for how to tell a guy you like him have evolved. These days, the likelihood that a man is a straight and b single, as well as c interested is a lot lower than it was 20 years ago. Did you realize that men and women handle rejection differently? Women are likely to feel emotionally hurt by the rejection and to assume that there is something lacking in them that warranted the rejection or else blame the person who did the rejecting, but use self-soothing to get over the insult, rather than lashing out as males might do. Better to know that now than waste my time dating him! Rather than looking at it as rejection, you look at it as an opportunity.

Illustration by Sarah MacReading. We are pretty damn good at lying. In fact, most of us can't go ten minutes without fibbing. Of course, most of our daily lies are harmless. We lie every time we type "lol" at an unfunny joke, which is most jokes. We pretend to totally remember someone who claims we met at some party.

Yes…as long as you know these critical elements about how to communicate with him first. A man absolutely wants you to be honest and straightforward with him. When there is conflict people definitely process and deal with that in different ways. Some people want the emotional reassurance of talking it through; others need some space to decompress before they return to a situation.

My friend Julia and I were watching football one Sunday night, commiserating about our dating frustrations. One guy in particular had been texting Julia incessantly for about a year and a half, never asking her out. As much as I really wanted my friend to speak up for herself, I understood how difficult that can be. Years ago, I was introduced to an amazing book that made me reconsider the way we tend to communicate with others. The Four Agreements , by don Miguel Ruiz, describes four principles that can "create love and happiness in your life. Yeah, right , you're probably thinking. That basically describes every book sitting in every self-help section of every bookstore today.

Think about you. You are never going to be younger than you are right now. At this very moment in time, you are getting older. Whether you want to believe it or not, your girlfriends always have your back. They may seem a little hesitant on the guy of your choosing or a little iffy on the idea of your feelings, but once you make up your mind — they WILL support you.
