Surah Yasin - The Heart of the Quran: Arabic and English Language with English Translation by Jamiatul Ulama Kzn

Surah Yasin was revealed in Makkah with eighty-three verses arranged into five sections. Surah Yasin begins with affirming of Muhammad’s [PBUH] prophethood by invoking the Qur’an, the book of wisdom and assuring him that he is on the right guidance.

Then it proceeds to describe the fate of the inhabitants of a certain settlement; they repudiated the prophets sent to them and invited
Allah’s wrath on themselves which wiped them off the face of earth. This account of the attitude of the people of the settlement makes a very significant point; the truth which the high, proud and sophisticated people of the city failed to see was recognized by a simple, lowly man from the suburbs.

After narrating the story of the settlement the surah once again calls upon people to observe and ponder over the vast and varied phenomena of nature – from the stars and planets to the rich
productivity of earth – and decide who else but the supreme being who created and subjected the entire universe to an ordered, integrated system is worthy of worship.

The surah also declares that the prophet is not a poet and that what he preaches is the Message of Allah I whose knowledge has no bounds, and not imaginary tales, exaggerated descriptions and false assertions (which are the stock-in-trade of decadent poets).

All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala, The Supreme Master of all the worlds. Countless Durood and Salaam be upon our beloved Nabi, Sayyidina Muhammad( PBUH ).

To begin a discourse like this does not mean that the Prophet peace be upon him , God forbid, had some doubt about his Prophethood, and Allah had to say this in order to reassure him of it. But the reason is that the disbelieving Quraish at that time were most vehemently refusing to believe in his Prophethood. Therefore, Allah at the very beginning of the discourse has said: You are indeed one of the Messengers, which implies that the people who deny your Prophethood are misled and mistaken. This itself testifies that the person who is presenting such wise revelations is most surely a Messenger of God. No man has the power to compose such revelations. The people who know Muhammad peace be upon him can never be involved in the misunderstanding that he is himself forging these discourses, or reciting them after having learned them from another man.

This is just a study guide for those who are at the learning stage. You must learn how to pronounce the Arabic letters from a qualified person! For example, the "a" in "wa" should be pronounced like "e" in "went". Likewise, all the "a" in the sura should produce an "a" sound like "e" in "went". Some Fatha produces an "a" sound like "a" in English word "art".

Some scholars maintain that verse 12 is from the Medinan period. One of the interpretations is "O human being! The surah focuses on establishing the Qur'an as a divine source, and it warns of the fate of those who mock God's revelations and are stubborn. The surah tells of the punishments that plagued past generations of nonbelievers as a warning to present and future generations. Additionally, the surah reiterates God's sovereignty as exemplified by His creations through signs from nature. The surah ends with arguments in favor of the existence of Resurrection and God's sovereign power.
