My donkey sally questions and answers
The Donkey Rustlers by Gerald DurrellThe setting is an island in the Ionian Sea off the coast of Greece. Here the Finchberry-Whites, with their children, Amanda and David, came each year from England to spend the summer.
But this summer Amanda and David found their friend Yani in trouble. The Mayor, who held the mortgage on the land Yani had inherited, was about to foreclose. Something had to be done.
And so one morning the villagers found themselves donkeyless -- all twenty donkeys and the Mayors horse had mysteriously vanished, and the only clue was a sign which read Donkeys of the world unite.
Witchcrtaft! Witchcraft! yelled a villager.
Dont be foolish, said the Mayor. Its obviously Communists. Who else would ask donkeys to unite?
How everything is finally put to rights in a most unconventional example of island justice brings delight to villagers, children, and reader.
Gerald Durrells gift for portraying human and animal foibles, at the same time droll and sympathetic, gives his books a special gay wit and easy-going charm.
I hadnt realized this was childrens or young adult book, and its short (158 pages) so I read it all in one sitting. A charming little book, and I couldnt help thinking that Amanda was based on the authors sister Margo, and that David was an amalgam of his brothers Larry and Leslie. Enjoyable, but not one of the authors best efforts (I still think Menagerie Manor is one of his best efforts.

My Daughter is in oia. Behind her apartment in the field are some donkeys every lunchtime and early evening she she see them coming and going. Lots of people say don't use the donkeys my question is why? The Donkeys only seam to be out for an afternoon and look healthy and like they look like they are well cared for. Please don't shoot me down but animals are used in the fields and to carry goods around so why is it so wrong to use these Donkeys. Not ALL donkey's on Santorini are abused! But the ones running up and down to the old port from Fira and has to carry sometimes fat and heavy tourists many times per day.
His memoirs of his family's years living in Greece were adapted into the television series The Durrells , and he wrote a number of books about his life as an animal collector and enthusiast, the most famous being My Family and Other Animals. He was the youngest brother of novelist Lawrence Durrell. Durrell was born in Jamshedpur , British India on 7 January Durrell's father was a British engineer and, as was commonplace and befitting the family status, the infant Durrell spent most of his time in the company of an ayah nursemaid. Durrell reportedly recalled his first visit to a zoo in India and attributed his lifelong love of animals to that encounter.

The actor David Swift, who has died aged 85, found fame as Henry Davenport in the TV sitcom Drop the Dead Donkey, which achieved a sense of authenticity by including real-life topical events in the stories covered in the television studios of the fictional GlobeLink News. Swift revelled in the role of the irascible, vain Henry, a seasoned reporter turned news presenter who wears a toupee and constantly bickers with his fellow anchor, Sally Smedley played by Victoria Wicks. Twelve words, all English, very often one syllable. It seemed appropriate that Swift should make his mark on screen in a programme about the cut-throat world of television journalism, because he was also an astute business executive who launched or furthered the careers of some eminent current affairs and documentary makers in the medium. During his first decade in acting, he ran Preview 1 and Preview 2, sound-recording and film-editing businesses, in the West End of London.
Sign in. Gus decides that Globelink is suffering from 'team-unbonding'. His answer? A weekend of 'adventure-harmonising', better known as paintball in the woods.
