Ten Things I Hate about You by David Levithan

Buzzword A Thon
Golden Girls Read A Thon: Read a book that includes female friendships

When I was 13 years old 10 Things I Hate About You was my favorite movie. I think I saw it in the theater at least 3x. I loved it! This movie was the first time I ever saw Heath Ledger and it was love at first sight. I was also still nursing my crush on Andrew Keegan(what ever happened to him) and I thought Julia Stiles was the coolest. Im tempted to rewatch the movie but I fear I wont enjoy it as much as an adult.

If Im being honest this book is probably a 2 star read but my nostalgia for the movie caused me to up the rating. 10 Things I Hate About You is a retelling of William Shakespeares The Taming Of The Shrew. Bianca the most popular sophomore at Padua High wants to date but cant until her older sister Kat does and Kat has no interest in dating or parties. So Cameron one of the 2 boys vying for Bianca comes up with a plan to get Kat to go out with school bad boy Patrick.

Despite the condensed and rushed nature of the book it did make me want to watch the movie again. If for no other reason than to see a young Heath Ledger.

The good-looking Patrick sees it as easy money. What could be simpler than dating a good-looking girl?

Although in many film texts this is not the case. However, they ended up falling for Kat and Katharina who have been set up as the archetypal shrews in both films. It implies that films having female characters are appealing just to women spectators, and films with men, as protagonists are more commonly considered as widespread, while. Directed by Gil Junger. The movie 10 Things I Hate About You features a teenaged woman who, we are repeatedly told, is a feisty rebel. For a moment, she actually lives up to the billing. In an early scene, our heroine Julia Stiles sits in her English class where a classmate fawns over Hemingway, saying she finds the author romantic. This classmate has the teacher's support. Stiles responds beautifully: "Romantic?

During his tour is when Cameron first sees Bianca Stratford, a beautiful sophomore with one problem: she isn't allowed to date. And neither is her "shrew" sister, Katarina, a senior who loves indie rock and feminist prose and hates conformity. But Kat and Bianca's father alters his house rule: now, Bianca can date Now, in order for Cameron to date Bianca, he has to find someone to date Kat. His choice: Patrick Verona, a bad-boy with a mysterious reputation--some say he ate a live duck once, others that he lit a state trooper on fire, and even more claim that he had a brief porn career.
