The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.

Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isnt simply about going fast. On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through.

A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life ... as only a dog could tell it.

The Art of Racing in the Rain (2019) Movie Review

The Art Of Racing In The Rain

This book begins at the ending: specifically, the end of Enzo's life. At this point in the story, Enzo is an old dog, tired and ready to move on to what comes next. He's preparing himself and his master Denny for their ultimate goodbye. Enzo knows he's ready, but Denny certainly doesn't. Like most of us humans, Denny is prone to wanting to hold on. Enzo knows that because of this, he has to prepare Denny to let go, so what better send-off for man's best friend than describing the full life he and his master shared?

Bruce Cameron. Like the Cameron adaptations, The Art of Racing in the Rain is not a true story , but a lot of it is based on reality, so it'll still be emotionally affecting. Mild spoilers ahead. The dog narrates the film and the book, and isn't content just being "man's best friend" — because that's what dogs do. Enzo has a goal of learning how to be as human as possible so he can be reincarnated as one. Denny faces a lot of personal trials throughout the film, from struggling with tough racing competitions to facing his wife, Eve's Amanda Seyfried illness.

The movie doesn't seem to be playing near you. Based on the best-selling novel by Garth Stein, THE ART OF RACING IN THE RAIN is a heartfelt tale narrated by a witty and philosophical dog named Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner). Through his bond with his owner, Denny Swift (Milo.

Timing is everything when it comes to release dates for similar projects. The Art Of Racing In The Rain at least sets itself apart by having the most premises, blending as it does the story of a race car-loving dog who longs to be human with a Nicholas Sparks-inspired family weepie. In his opening voice-over, he casually tosses off a reference to a Mongolian documentary he caught on TV one time. That documentary introduced Enzo to the Mongolian legend that dogs who live good lives can be reincarnated as human beings. Enzo puts aside his grudge once Eve and Denny have a baby. The dangers of racing are mentioned in passing, but, really, Denny could have any demanding job that kept him away from his family. There are only a few brief racing sequences, none of which are all that exciting.

I have eaten stacks of pancakes that were less syrupy than "The Art of Racing in the Rain. It is based on the best-seller by filmmaker and race car driver Garth Stein and its aspirations are self-consciously literary. The narration is flowery, whether the topic is the world as perceived by a dog or his dreams—of auto racing and of being truly human. This dog wants to have a tongue that can speak, thumbs that can grasp, and a very, very fast car he can drive. The dog in this story is Enzo, named for Enzo Ferrari, a race car driver and founder of the automobile company, voiced with the husky gravel of Kevin Costner. Enzo thinks so, too.
