what is wonder about book

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse.

August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.

Wonder Audiobook R. J. Palacio

Wonder begins from Auggie's point of view, but soon switches to include the perspectives of his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These voices converge to portray a community as it struggles with differences, and challenges readers, both young and old, to wonder about the true nature of empathy, compassion, acceptance, friendship, and—ultimately—kindness.

Palacio wishes she could take back. Afterwards, I started really thinking … what I should have done, of course, is just turn to the little girl and maybe started up a conversation and shown by example that it was really nothing to be afraid of. A New York city graphic artist who has designed book jackets for authors including Salman Rushie, Sue Grafton and Thomas Pynchon, Palacio had never written a book herself. She started Wonder that night. The book tells the story of Auggie Pullman, a boy with facial differences caused by a rare genetic condition who enters middle school after years of homeschooling.

Wonder by R. Palacio has completely captured my heart, as well as the hearts of kids all over the world. I have been constantly searching for books like Wonder to add to my collection. I have read Wonder more times than I can probably remember. I came upon it back in college when I was babysitting a kid who absolutely loved it.
