10 Bible Passages for New Beginnings
God is in the business of making all things new. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Truth: Your old, sinful nature is dead. You learn to grow in your new identity in Christ as you learn more about His character.

We see the beginning of each year as a chance to start fresh. The reasons for slacking off vary, but basically it all boils down to a lack of commitment.
