Jamie Johnson: Born To Play by Dan Freedman
My reaction to Jamie Johnson *I PLAYED AGAINST TEKKERZ KID AND ROMELLO*
Jamie Johnson Books
Dan Freedman grew up wanting to be a professional footballer. That didn't happen. But he went on to become a top football journalist, personally interviewing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and David Beckham. He uses his passion and knowledge of football to write the hugely popular Jamie Johnson series of novels, all about one normal kid's dream of becoming one of the best players in the world. Dan is an ambassador for the Youth Sport Trust and works alongside The Premier League and The National Literacy Trust to encourage kids to get into reading and writing through their love of football. When not writing, Dan delivers talks and workshops for schools and he still plays football whenever he can.
The idea behind the books was a very simple one: I wanted to write the kind of books that I would have loved to have read when I was younger. That meant lots of drama, fast-paced action and, of course lots of football. The other ingredient was to share and tap into the unique experiences that I was lucky enough to have when I was working in football. Having met the top players and managers in the game, I wanted to use those special ingredients in the books. The only thing that I needed was a story… A character.
The journey of The Jamie Johnson Series began way back in the early s when I was working as a soccer journalist. At that time, I was lucky enough to be meeting and interviewing some of the best players in the world. I had the privilege to sit and chat with players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and David Beckham, fuelling my passion and interest in this beautiful game. Then, one weekend, I was with a friend of mine and she happened to tell me that she was looking in bookshops to try to find a soccer novel for her godson who was just about to have his birthday. This boy was crazy about soccer and a soccer novel seemed to be an ideal gift. Taking in this information, my mind seemed to be full of fireworks, cluttered with questions and brimming with excitement.
The series is based on a series of books created by Dan Freedman ; in particular, the book Born to Play , published in July , was specifically written as a prequel to the series. Jamie Johnson Louis Dunn is a teenage boy living with single mother Emma Stansfield and grandfather obsessed with association football , and fan of Hawkstone United. During the first season of the series, Johnson is dropped from the team, after failing to control his anger, when he finds that his father has a secret second family.
