Pictures of You is the nineteenth episode of the fourth season of The Vampire Diaries and the eighty-fifth episode of the series overall. Determined to get through to Elena, Damon and Stefan both attend the prom, but the evening begins to spiral out of control despite their efforts. When Elena suddenly lashes out in a way no one could have predicted, Matt turns to Rebekah for help. Finally, Bonnie makes a terrifying discovery, and Klaus receives a message that could change everything. Damon and Stefan have taken Elena 's threat to kill people seriously, though they reason that the best course of action is to try to convince Elena to turn her humanity back on by reminding her of her past happy life. Elijah has a conversation with Rebekah and Klaus about the cure to decide who will get it. Klaus wants to give it to Silas so he will die, though it will cause all the dead supernatural beings to come back; Klaus notes this will at least enable them to see their dead siblings, Kol and Finn.
A Night to Remember. McQueen at the Gilbert Family plot. As she finally, awakes, she realizes she is on fire and unsure of how something like this could have happened. After the stunt she pulled back in PA, it is no secret that they have to tread lightly with this tactic. Elijah Daniel Gillies makes a wager with Rebekah. Her challenge is to live one day as a human without using any of her supernatural powers and the cure is hers.
Inside the prom, things are tense. Putting his feelings on the table, he quotes her feelings for him directly, reminding her that she said she loved him and that it was the most real thing she had ever felt. Elena is cruel to him and to Stefan. The younger Salvatore insists that they dance, and when the verbal reminders of their past trigger nothing, he employs her sense-memory, running his fingers down her back and entwining their hands. This does nothing to sway her and only hurts Stefan and Damon, who has witnessed the whole thing. She arrives looking stunning in the relic Klaus procured for her and is immediately whisked into a dance with Stefan.
No, this week is a chance for Matt and Bonnie, usually ignored or missing half of the time, to shine. Because this is a sentimental high school rite of passage episode, Jeremy pops up a couple of weeks early, first in a dream sequence and then outside of the high school ready for a dance. She resolutely refuses, but her magic starts getting her into a bit of trouble. Elena still refuses to turn her emotions back on, and Damon and Stefan are still intent on forcibly defying her wishes. This whole thing is just creepy and deeply sexist it would be slightly better if one of the people trying to change her mind was a fellow woman. Caroline, for example, could be used to explain how being a vampire has helped her through various traumas.
