The origins of the telescope date back to the Netherlands around 1608. Three men are generally credited with its invention, Hans Lippershey – Sacharias Jansen – and Jacob Metius (also known as Jacob Adriaanszoon). Hans Lippershey is credited with creating & making public.. designs for the first practical telescope. Likely the most famous name connected to the birth of the telescope is Galileo Galilei, he solved the problems related to its construction & engineered improvements on the original designs to enhance the powers of magnification properties in 1609 from Padua. In 1610, he discovered the moons of Jupiter, while soon after – the existence of Sun spots, phases of Venus & peaks/ valleys on the moon. Galileo’s instrument was the first to be given the name “telescope”. Click Here for more in depth history of the telescope.
